Mitchell Starc broke Glenn McGrath's 12-year-old record for most wickets in a single edition of a World Cup, when he got the wicket of Jonny Bairstow during Australia's semifinal clash against England at Edgbaston on Thursday.
With 27 wickets, Starc surpassed McGrath's tally of 26, who had set the milestone in the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean. After setting a target of 224 for England, Australia expected Starc to make early inroads but that didn't happen with Bairstow and Jason Roy putting up a 100-plus opening stand.
He had equalled McGrath's tally of 26 wickets during Australia's last league game against South Africa — with the scalps of J.P. Duminy and Dwaine Pretorius.
