Gavaskar presents Hall of Fame cap to Dravid

Former India captain Rahul Dravid received the honour ahead of the fifth ODI between India and Windies in Thiruvananthapuram.

There they were on the lush, green ground – two of India’s most classically moulded batsmen of all time.

In a short, but memorable ceremony, before the kick-off the fifth ODI on Thursday, Sunil Gavaskar presented that ICC cap to Rahul Dravid, following the induction of the latter to the ICC’s Hall of Fame.

Last July, Dravid had become the only the fifth Indian to join the elite list of cricketers. Gavaskar, Bishen Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble are others.

It is an honour Dravid, one of the most selfless and the gentlest of men ever to have graced the game, has richly deserved. After amassing 13288 runs in Tests and 10889 in ODIs, he turned himself into hugely successful coach. He continues to do a great job as the mentor of India’s A and Under-19 players.

“It in an honour to receive this from a hero of mine,” he told Gavaskar at the function.

While welcoming him to the Hall of Fame, the original Little Master said: “You fully deserve this; you have been the conscience of Indian and international cricket. Continue to do all the great work you have been doing.”
