Vijay Hazare: Samar takes five as Bihar routs Meghalaya

Samar Quadri scalped a five-for as Bihar registered a 108-run win over Meghalaya in a Vijay Hazare Plate Group match at the Motibagh Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.

In the other two fixtures of the day, Uttarakhand got the better of Manipur by nine wickets in Nadiad, while Sikkim suffered a 42-run defeat against Mizoram in Anand.

At the Motibagh Stadium, Meghalaya won the toss and opted to field. But, Bihar suffered early jitters — it had lost two wickets for nine — to post 211-9 in 50 overs, with Anshuman Gautam scoring 40.

For Meghalaya, Gurinder Singh, Abhay Negi and Lakhan Singh scalped two wickets apiece.

In reply, Meghalaya found itself in deep waters, with Quadri wreaking havoc. As the leggie scalped a fifer, Ashutosh Aman too joined the party, scalping three wickets for 15 runs.

None of the Meghalaya batsmen could show resilience. Though Yogesh Nagar and Gurinder Singh played knocks of 22 each, they were not enough.

In Nadiad, Uttarakhand toyed with Manipur — handing it a nine-wicket defeat.

Put in to bat, Manipur was bundled out for 125 in 37.4 overs. Though veteran Yashpal Sharma played a knock of 76, that was not enough.

Sunny Rana scalped three wickets for 27. In reply, Vineet Saxena — the vastly experienced campaigner — played an unbeaten knock of 52, while the other opener Arya Saithi slammed 50, to seal the deal for Uttarakhand in just 26.2 overs.

In Anand, Taruwar Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 113 guided Mizoram to 252-6 in 50 overs. For Sikkim, Plazor Tamang scalped 3-62.

In reply, Plazong’s 47 and Lee Yong Lepcha’s 42 helped Sikkim reach 210 in 47.3 overs. But inexperience cost the side dear, as it fell 42 short of the target.

With this, Bihar sits pretty on top with 14 points, while Uttarakhand is second, with 12 points.
