Virender Sehwag rubbishes reports of ‘two-line CV’

The former India opener has denied sending a ‘two-line CV’ to the BCCI as application for the role of India coach, saying, “If I had to send a two-line resume, my name was enough.”

Virender Sehwag picked Gary Kirsten as the best coach he had known, and Sourav Ganguly as the best captain.

Virender Sehwag took exception to reports claiming he had sent a two-line Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the Board when applying for the post of India coach. The former India opener said, “I would be happy to get that two-line CV from the media source. If I had to send a two-line resume, my name was enough.”

Sehwag picked Gary Kirsten as the best coach he had known. “A coach and the player should have a father-son relation. It also helps if we have a local coach because it makes communicating easier and better.”

NC News blogger Padampati Sharma, who conducted the interview, Sehwag was all praise for Anil Kumble. He noted, “I have played along with him as a player. He always supported me. I don’t know him as a coach. Five series wins is not a small achievement.”

Rating Sourav Ganguly as the best captain he had known, Sehwag said, “"Sourav taught me how to keep patience and is my all-time favourite captain. On the other hand, Sachin (Tendulkar) gave me confidence and broke my superstitions. Playing with him was like playing with the wall, you could play without any tension and hit boundaries freely."

Known for his dashing approach to cricket, Sehwag picked Pakistan as the one opposition he always looked forward to playing against. “I always loved hitting boundaries, especially against Shoaib Akhtar who used to bowl at 150 kmph.”

It was obvious that Sehwag backed India to win the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan on Sunday. “Given the form we are in, I see the trophy coming home.”
