CCFC launches Street Football League

The tournament organizers are looking to divulge into the working class communities based out of Chennai to unearth raw talent.

CCFC owner Rohit Ramesh stated that the newly launched league was more a source for community service than a grassroots programme.

Chennai City football club (CCFC) unveiled the "Street Football League" in association with Chennai Football Association (CFA) and Tamil Nadu Football Association (TFA) at a press conference here on Saturday. 

The tournament organizers are looking to divulge into the working class communities based out of Chennai to unearth raw talent.  CCFC owner Rohit Ramesh stated that the newly launched league was more a source for community service than a grassroots programme.

"We are looking to use this as a platform to seek kids at a young age and enable them to make the grades through the First division to the Senior division and then the I- league," said Ramesh. 

The format for the 16 team two-day competition scheduled for September 15 is yet to be approved by the CFA.  However, the organizers have already earmarked Puzhal as a likely venue for the event but are mulling bigger arenas to provide larger exposure. 

The 16 football communities that have been identified to invest for the first edition are:

SEEDS - Vyasarpadi 12. Nethaji FC - Vyasarpadi B V Colony 13. Sagas FC - Pallavaram 14. Dr. Ambedkar Sports Club - Manali 15. Grace Soccer Club - Senneerkuppam16. Shankar Ramesh Memorial Football Association - Thirur
