A day after Chennai City FC coach V. Soundararajan criticised his side’s foreign recruit Haroon Islam Amiri, the club on Thursday announced that the team and the player have parted ways by mutual consent.

During CCFC’s match against Bengaluru FC on Wednesday, Amiri was left out of the starting eleven and the coach said in the post-match conference that the player refused to warm-up before the match.

In a statement the club said, “Chennai City FC thanks Haroon Amiri for his contribution to the team in their first I-League. Both the team management and the player decided to part ways in their best interests.

“The management, staff and players wish to place on record that it fully backs head coach Mr. Soundararajan and believes he is ably equipped to take the club to greater heights.”

Amiri also issued a press statement saying, “For me the club is always bigger than everyone, besides I share great love with the owners. But as my relation with the coach is unresolvable, I met with the top management and we decided it was best I part way in good terms.”
