Marco Materazzi falls on the pitch after being head-butted by Zinedine Zidane during the World Cup 2006 final.

Football legend Zinedine Zidane’s son Luca was sent off the field during a youth game here which reminded one of the former France captain’s infamous head-butt during the 2006 FIFA World Cup final against Italy.

Luca, a goalkeeper plying his trade for the Real Madrid youth team was having a tough time under the bar as arch-rivals Atletico Madrid pumped in four goals. Eventually Real lost 2-4, reported the Mirror on Monday.

Frustrated, Luca snapped at one of his rival teammates and headbutted him. The referee was quick to notice it and flashed out his red card.

In the 2006 final, Zidane had to suffer the same fate when he used his head to floor Italian defender Marco Materazzi, who is at present the coach of Indian Super League (ISL) side Chennaiyin FC. France lost the game in the shoot-out and the Azzuris were crowned world champions.

Zidane played for European powerhouses Juventus (1996-2001) and Real Madrid (2001-2006) during his peak that also saw him lift the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship for France.
