As we head into the last day of the January transfer window, here is a compilation of the five top transfers of the day.

1) Aymeric Laporte: Athletic Bilbao to Manchester City

Premier League leader Manchester City signed Aymeric Laporte for a club-record fee of €65million from Athletic Bilbao. The 23-year-old Frenchman has a contract until 2023.

Laporte, who has spent his entire career at Athletic, reportedly opted against joining City in 2016 as he was recovering from a broken ankle. [ Report ]

2) Daniel Sturridge: Liverpool to West Brom (Loan)

In one of the biggest moves of the day, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge joined West Brom on loan for the rest of the season. The 28-year-old has struggled for regular starts this season, with Roberto Firmino firmly established as Liverpool's favoured option at centre-forward under Jurgen Klopp.

The Englishman will look for more match time as he seeks to ensure his place in the national squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June. [ Report ]

3) Marcus McGuane: Arsenal to Barcelona

La-Liga giant Barcelona roped in 18-year-old Marcus McGuane from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder has completed a medical in Spain and signed a contract that includes a release clause of €25million.

McGuane, an England youth international, will join Barca's B team with a view to earning a spot in the first-team squad in future. [ Report ]

4) Inigo Martinez: Real Soceidad to Athletic Bilbao

Following the departure of Laporte, Athletic Bilbao roped in centre-back Inigo Martinez from Real Sociedad after meeting his €32million release clause. The Spaniard has signed a five-year contract that will see him remain at Bilbao until June 2023. [ Report ]

5) Gerard Deulofeu: Barcelona to Watford (Loan)

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu will don Premier League side Watford's jersey for the rest of the season. The Spanish international re-joined Barca from Everton during the close-season but he he has been restricted to five LaLiga starts so far.

Watford will pay Deulofeu's salary in full during his time at Vicarage Road, with a potential additional payment of €1million to be made to Barcelona if certain stipulations are met. [ Report ]
