Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s HIGHLIGHTS of the Real Madrid vs Barcelona Spanish Super Cup final at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
That is it! The full time whistle follows the restart from the circle. Barcelona has won a trophy after nearly two years. Xavi’s first title as manager. The players are up in a huddle and chanting “Campeones, Campeones.” Xavi walks on to the pitch with a ear-to-ear wide smile. Disappointment for Real Madrid. It was outplayed by Barcelona tonight. The winner was rock solid in defence tonight. It was clinical up front. Gavi, to no one’s surprise, takes the player of the match award. One goal and two assists, he had a night to remember. Benzema scored one for Madrid but it was merely a consolation goal. Barcelona has its revenge for last year’s defeat in the semifinal too.
Goal for Real Madrid! Benzema fires it into the bottom right corner. There is barely any celebrations from the Madrid players as they walk back to their posts. Too little too late.
Three minutes of stoppage time indicated by the fourth official.
Two more changes for Barcelona.
IN - Roberto, Fati | OUT - Pedri, Gavi
Cleared by Garcia! Vinicius crosses from the left flank. It is in Benzema’s range but Garcia reaches the ball first and clears it for a corner.
Two changes for Barcelona.
IN - Garcia, Kessie | OUT - De Jong, Araujo
Barcelona in control of the ball. De Jong with a cheeky rainbow to control possession on once occasion. Just 10 minutes to navigate for Barcelona.
Real Madrid 0-3 Barcelona - Pedri 69’
GOAL FOR BARCELONA!!!! The score is 3-0 and surely Barcelona has sealed it! Pedri on the scoresheet!
Rudiger with a vital block. Dembele is one on one against the German, and he tries to feint a cut in to the left but turns to the right side. Rudiger reads it and puts a foot in.
Real Madrid makes a change. IN - Dani Ceballos | OUT - Modric
Real Madrid builds an attack on the left wing. Vinicius and Benzema with a neat one-two move. They make it into the penalty area but the Barcelona defence is able to nick the ball just in time.
Vinicius tries a cheeky dummy and turn but the Barcelona defence is in shape to clear the ball and stop the winger from pulling it off. Alert defending.
Rodrygo fouls Balde near the left touchline. Balde was protecting the ball in his own half and the Brazilian too eager to get to the ball ends up tripping his opponent.
Courtois with yet another save! Barcelona on top here. This time the Real Madrid custodian denies Lewandowski. His left footed shot is saved by the Belgian.
Saved by Courtois! Dembele misses on 1v1 chance. Another swift move by Barcelona and Lewandowski send Dembele through on the right side of goal. Dembele shoots with his right but Courtois keeps low to save it.
IN - Rodrygo | OUT - Camavinga
The second half is underway in Riyadh. Can Real Madrid find a way out of trouble or will it Barcelona’s first title of the season?
Xavi will be delighted with his side’s performance. Barcelona has carried its good La Liga form to Saudi. It has been compact in defence and has retained the ball well. More importantly, it has been clinical in front of goal, an aspect Xavi wanted his boys to improve on. After Gavi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, he provided another for Lewandowski at the stroke of the interval. Barcelona has one hand on the trophy but will be cautious and would want to avoid complacency. Second Half to begin shortly.
Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona - Lewandowski 45’
GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL! LEWANDOWSKI doubles the lead for Barcelona! It is 2-0 now!
Vinicius is fighting for the ball on a dribble and he ends up fouling Kounde. Free Kick to Barcelona.
Carvajal fouls Gavi on the right touchline. Smart work by Gavi as he was shielding the ball from the right back in a pressure moment.
Real Madrid wins a corner but is not able to utilise it to pose a threat.
Pedri with another world class run. He starts from his own half and beats Kroos on the way. He is finally stopped on the edge of the penalty area.
Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona - Gavi 33’
GAVI!!!!!!! Barcelona leads the final 1-0! The crowd is jumping at the King Fahd Stadium.
The delivery from the free kick by Pedri is right on the edge of the six-yard area but Courtois is able to punch it away.
Dembele yet again down the right. This time Mendy fouls him and is shown a yellow card.
Dembele’s cross cleared! Barcelona comes charging down the right wing. Dembele crosses the ball from the final third, presumably for Lewa but the striker is still not quite in position and the ball is cleared without any danger.
Gavi sends in a long ball into Madrid’s penalty area, looking for Pedri’s run. Courtois comes out of his line to stop the ball and wins it in the air. Good decision.
Busquets fouls Camavinga! Still goalless in Riyadh. The teams have been lively though and offered plenty to enjoy.
Benzema OFFSIDE! Modric plays a dink from the centre of the field for Benzema but the French striker is miles offside.
Barcelona happy to keep the ball around the final third. Real Madrid not letting an inch of space. Organised in defence.
Barcelona strikes back! Frenki de Jong takes a shot which is blocked by Rudiger. The ball rolls to Kounde on the right and he flashes a shot at the goal. The ball goes across the face of the goal as no one is able to meet it. Throw in for Real Madrid.
Benzema header wide! Clinical from Real Madrid. Vinicius and Mendy combine down the left flank which ends with the left back putting in a cross. Benzema hangs back and hits the ball. The header misses the top left corner. All of Barcelona’s defence was beaten on that one.
Barcelona growing in confidence. Xavi’s side has controlled the possession for the last five minutes. A trait the club is known for.
Barcelona hits the post! Lewandowski! That was so close! Barcelona again builds a neat move in the final third and the ball ends up with Lewa. He shoots from outside the penalty area. Courtois saves but the ball ricochets to the left post. Balde then has a chance at an open goal but that goes over the cross bar.
Lewandowski header goes off target! The ball is played in from the left side. Lewandowski rises the tallest and gets his head to it. The shot rolls wide off the top right corner.
FOUL! Mendy fouls Dembele near the half-way line.
Camavinga fights for the ball and prevents Barcelona from winning it. Real Madrid then breaks out on an attack which is stopped by Araujo’s tackle.
Aruajo makes the attempt to finish from the free kick. Pedri dinks it gently over Madrid’s defensive line. The ball has just a bit too much of power and it beats Araujo.
FOUL! Kroos fouls Busquets. The referee waives play on but Barcelona is interested in taking the free kick. Pedri does not take the advantage and the play is stopped for a free kick.
Barcelona wins the ball back and Pedri and Dembele combine on the right side to ensure the Blaugrana keep the ball.
Vinicius makes a dash for the ball in the final third but Kounde stands resolute and sees the ball roll over the touchline for a goal kick.
Courtois sees multiple touches of the ball as Barcelona presses high. Real Madrid has no problem in keeping the ball with its defense line.
Ladies and gentlemen, we’re off at the King Fahd Stadium. The title at line! Real Madrid has the ball to start the match.

If Carlo Ancelotti’s side wins, it will be its second title of the season after winning the UEFA Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt. It could also equal Barcelona’s record 13 Spanish Super Cup trophies.
Xavi Hernández’s Barcelona is under more pressure to bring the Super Cup back to Spain. It would be its first title since the 2021 Copa del Rey under former coach Ronald Koeman. That was Lionel Messi’s 35th and and final title with Barcelona before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain.
Xavi’s is still building his reputation as a coach. The team has yet to perform to the level of the talent the club mortgaged its future for last summer to upgrade with Robert Lewandowski and others.
In clasicos against Madrid, coach Xavi has a record of one win and two losses, including a 3-2 loss in last season’s Spanish Super Cup semifinals.
