ITF men’s Futures: Sriram Balaji wins doubles crown

It was the eighth Futures singles title for Balaji. Interestingly, it was only his fourth victory over Vishnu in ten meetings in the professional circuit, and the first time in a final.

In the doubles Balaji and Vishnu prevailed 10-6 in the super tie-break against Mohit Mayur and Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

Sriram Balaji won a double crown as he clinched the singles title beating Vishnu Vardhan, and partnered him to win the doubles title in the USD 15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament on Saturday.

After a good start, Balaji eased to a 6-2, 7-6(1) victory. In the doubles Balaji and Vishnu prevailed 10-6 in the super tie-break against Mohit Mayur and Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

It was the eighth Futures singles title for Balaji. Interestingly, it was only his fourth victory over Vishnu in ten meetings in the professional circuit, and the first time in a final.

Vishnu who had lost to Balaji in the National championship final, had beaten him in two previous finals in the professional circuit, including one last year. It was the second successive singles final for Balaji who had lost to Yuki Bhambri last week in Chandigarh.

Both Balaji and Vishnu have won dozens of doubles titles.
