Sania Mirza ended the year as the World No. 1 in women's doubles.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza said that she aims to replicate this year’s brilliant showing in doubles with her partner Martina Hingis in 2016 as well.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) event here on Tuesday, Sania said that it was a “dream come true” to finish the year as No.1 in the world.

“We have not lost a match for long. It is not that we are invincibles but we were definitely very dominating in the circuit,” she said.

Partership with Hingis

“Well, I reiterate that we gel beautifully on the court and have repeatedly shown the ability to come back strongly even in some matches when were down. The camaraderie and the spirit of togetherness is something amazing between us.

“We complement each other on and off the court and that is the secret of our success,” she added.

“I don't think that it is like it is news now if we lose and not if we keep winning. I still hope you people recognize our wins,” she quipped.

Sania was delighted that she could achieve what every tennis player would dream off winning almost everything. “I feel privileged to be in this enviable position. We are the hunted pair and we have to keep changing gears in every event to emerge winner,” she said.

What about next year’s Australian Open?

“I am really tired after what has been very hectic year. Needed a break and started training only this morning. So, right now let met not think about the Australian Open in January,” she replied.

“Before that, I will be playing in some exhibition matches in some cities including Hyderabad ahead of the IPTL,” the 29-year-old added.
