India’s medal prospects look bleak in canoeing.

Canoeing has been part of every Asian Games since the 1990 edition in Beijing. But India’s outings in the sport – dominated by the Chinese – have been forgettable, with the country’s best performance being a bronze medal in the 1,000m sprint at the 1994 Hiroshima Games for Johnny Rommel and Siji Kumar Sadanandan.

Amid selection turmoil, the Indian Olympic Association has sent participants for the slalom and sprint events, but has skipped the traditional, dragon boat event. And while the athletes exude confidence, India’s medal prospects look bleak.

Squad:

Slalom:  Two men and two women are set to represent India in Jakarta and Palembang

Sprint:  Eight men and seven women will be participating from India
