Anjali tops AFI confirmatory trials, Jisna second

P.T. Usha's trainee Jisna Mathew was second with 53.05s while V. Revathi was way behind in third place with 57.59s.

Anjali Devi, the fastest Indian woman quartermiler this season, topped the Athletics Federation of India's confirmatory trials with 52.30s in New Delhi on Saturday ahead of next week's World championships in Doha.

P.T. Usha's trainee Jisna Mathew was second with 53.05s while V. Revathi was way behind in third place with 57.59s.

With the AFI having a policy that those who skip national camps would not be included in relay teams, Anjali is likely to run only the individual 400m. And since Hima Das is out with an injury, V.K. Vismaya and Jisna — in that order — have emerged as the two fastest quartermilers based on current form among those eligible to be in the women's 4x400m relay team. They are well placed to take the two mixed relay berths too.

M.R. Poovamma and V. Subha are the favourites to take the other two spots in the women's relay team.

Alex Antony, with 46.58s topped the men's trials, which featured two runners, with Harsh Kumar clocking 46.76.
