BWF World Championships 2022: Saina Nehwal through to 3rd round; Treesa-Gayatri pair advance to 2nd round

Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand pair progressed to the second round of BWF Badminton World Championships with a win over Low Yeen Yuan and Valeree Siow of Malaysia.

Former World No. 1 Saina Nehwal brushed aside Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong on Tuesday to advance into the third round of the BWF Badminton World Championships.

The Hong Kong International was no match for Saina, as she beat Ngan Yi 21-19, 21-9 in a contest that lasted 38 minutes.

The 32-year-old Indian advanced to the third round as her next opponent, Nazomi Okuhara, pulled out of the World Championships due to injury.

Earlier, the Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand pair progressed to the second round with a win over Low Yeen Yuan and Valeree Siow of Malaysia.

The Indians overcame the Malaysians 21-11, 21-13 in 31 minutes.

In the mixed doubles event, India’s Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewagan had a disappointing outing as they lost 21-10, 23-21 to England’s Gregory Marris and Jenny Moore.

Later in the day, men’s doubles pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala also crashed out of the tournament, losing 14-21, 18-21 to France’s Fabien Delrue and William Villeger.

Mixed doubles duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ishaan Bhatnagar also didn’t have a good outing, losing 14-21, 17-21 to 14th seed Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand.
