Candidates chess: Karjakin stops Caruana, shares lead

Sergey Karjakin renewed his chances of becoming the challenger for the World chess crown for the second time in succession after a dominating 48-move victory against overnight leader Fabiano Caruana. He shared the lead at seven points after 12 rounds of the FIDE Candidates tournament here on Saturday.

The champion of this 14-round event will challenge Magnus Carlsen for the World title later this year.
With just two rounds remaining after Sunday’s rest day, China’s Ding Liren moved to the joint third place by matching Shakhriyar Mamedyarov’s tally pf 6.5 points after defeating the Azerbaijani in 43 moves. Alexander Grischuk also reached 6.5 points following a draw with off-form Levon Aronian.
