The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on Tuesday, announced the appointment of Test cricketer Arun Lal as the mentor of the Bengal team for the current domestic season.

There was uncertainty over coach Sairaj Bahutule's future following Bengal's disappointing performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

It is learnt that the former India all-rounder, who took up the job in 2015, will serve as the coach in the first two Ranji Trophy matches.

“The team and the support staff for the first two Ranji Trophy matches will be selected on October 26,” said a CAB release.

A Ranji Trophy preparatory camp, involving 20 probables, is being conducted under the supervision of V.V.S. Laxman at the Jadavpur University ground.

Bengal will travel to Amtar to play its first Ranji match against Himachal Pradesh from November 1. It will host Madhya Pradesh next at the Eden Gardens from November 12.
