Conflict of Interest: Top cricketers to participate in ‘informal’ discussion

Some of the top cricketers will assemble at the BCCI headquarters on August 19 for an ‘informal’ discussion on the Conflict of Interest issue.

The group includes former cricketers and the players who are involved with cricket broadcast.

Some of the top BCCI officials indicated that one of the three CoA members — Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Ravi Thodge — will meet the former cricketers. At least two former India captains have confirmed their presence to talk about how to tackle the CoI conundrum. The recommendations are likely to be then forwarded to the court-appointed amicus curiae for his consideration.

The meeting has been convened in the aftermath of the Conflict of Interest allegations over legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, V. V. S. Laxman and Rahul Dravid. After Sanjeev Gupta, a life member of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, complained about the possible conflict of interest of Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman, all three opted out of the Cricket Advisory Committee, and the BCCI had to reconstitute the panel.

Recently, Dravid — who is now the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy — was issued a notice by BCCI ethics officer Justice (retd.) D. K. Jain on the charges of conflict of interest for being employed with India Cements , which owns the Chennai Super Kings.
