Eoin Morgan, chuffed with the triumph, would rather savour the moment quietly before reverting his gaze upon the imminent Sunday’s final at Lord’s involving New Zealand.

At the fag-end of Eoin Morgan’s press conference at Edgbaston on Thursday, the England skipper was asked if he and his men would have a party to celebrate the victory over Australia in the World Cup semifinal. The southpaw quipped: “We need to be clear-headed, may be a glass of wine.”

He admitted that Thursday’s show came pretty close to a complete performance: “Our performances in the last three games got better and better and today’s was a step further. Everybody out there loved every ball that was bowled and we had a bit of a day out. It was close to a complete performance, the bowling unit did well and we were consistent with the lengths.”

Looking ahead at the summit clash, Morgan said: “We wouldn’t get carried away yet. We will be giving it everything we can to win the game. New Zealand bowled well and their performance in the semifinal against India was their best.”
