Rohit Sharma: I've learned from my past mistakes

Rohit Sharma, who overtook Shakib Al Hasan to become the highest run-scorer of World Cup 2019, said he doesn't think about milestones before walking out to bat.

India opener Rohit Sharma on Saturday struck a record fifth hundred in World Cup 2019 as Virat Kohli and Co. trumped Sri Lanka by seven wickets at Headingley in Leeds.

Rohit, who overtook Shakib Al Hasan to become the highest run-scorer of this edition said he doesn't think about milestones before walking out to bat. "I know if I do my job I can achieve all this (records)," Rohit said after his match-winning knock.

"The shot selection becomes important once I am in. I try and calculate how I want to go forward based on that. There has to be some discipline in your batting and I have learned from my past mistakes.

"What has happened has happened, every day is a new day in cricket. I come out thinking I have not played any ODIs or scored any hundreds. That is the challenge as a sportsperson," Rohit added.

Sri Lanka seamer, Lasith Malinga, who finished his World Cup campaign with expensive figures of one for 82 found praise from Mumbai Indians team-mate and Skipper Rohit. "He (Malinga) has been a champion bowler for Sri Lanka and then for Mumbai Indians. He has shown it over the years how the teams rely on him. I have seen him in close quarters and the cricket world will miss him."
