After that dramatic English upset at the hands of Sri Lanka, India seemed all set to follow suit, crumbling to Afghanistan for just 224 for the loss of eight wickets in its 50 overs.

At one point, it seemed a spirited Afghanistan batting lineup would take the game away from the tournament favourite. A deadly pace attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with some much needed damage control, with Mohammed Shami getting a hat-trick in the final over of the Afghanistan innings to take India through by 11 runs.
