Mitchell Starc recorded the first five-wicket haul of the 2019 World Cup to lead Australia to its second consecutive win of the tournament. Australia successfully defended 288 after half-centuries from Nathan Coulter-Nile and Steve Smith had helped the defending champion twice recover from precarious situations batting first.
Mitchell Starc performance highlights against West Indies
- Starc records his sixth five-wicket haul in One-Day International Cricket
- This is Starc's third five-for against the West Indies
The left-arm pacer removed Chris Gayle with the new ball to ensure Australia didn't allow West Indies to get off to a blazing start in chasing a stiff target.
Starc's final two overs, the 46th and 48th of the West Indies innings, proved decisive, with just two runs coming off those overs for the bargain of three wickets.
Jason Holder had been holding the West Indies innings together after Shai Hope had been dismissed for 68. And Starc, with the final ball of his ninth over, removed Holder with a bouncer directed at the left armpit, inducing a false stroke from the West Indies captain.
Starc has six wickets in two matches so far at this edition of the World Cup.
