Bairstow looks to end tour on positive note

One of the bright spots for England in an otherwise wretched tour has been the performance of wicketkeeper batsman Jonny Bairstow. The Yorkshire player has been sensational with the bat for England throughout the year and is 62 runs away from breaking Michael Vaughan’s record (1420 runs) of being the highest run scorer for England in a calendar year.

Talking about his form, he says: “I am pretty pleased with my performance, it has been a tough trip, but also very enjoyable at the same time, hopefully we can get a positive result from the last game.”

Bairstow has been equally reliable with the gloves behind the stumps and is now the preferred wicketkeeper over Jos Butler for the team. Foreign keepers usually find it tough in the subcontinent but that hasn’t been the case for Bairstow. “I am pleased with my keeping. I didn’t have time for any special preparation as we left for the Bangladesh tour right after our season got over.”

Bairstow will be hoping to end the tour on a high with another good showing in the final Test at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, starting tomorrow.
