Karsan Ghavri, the former India bowler, suffered a mild heart attack during the ongoing inter-zonal under-19 cricket tournament in Shimoga on Sunday. He was rushed to hospital early in the morning.

“He is stable now. A minor procedure had to be performed on him in the afternoon. Let’s hope for a speedy recovery now,” Dr. P.V. Shetty, joint secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, told Sportstar.

According to Dr. Shetty, Ghavri suffered the attack around 4 a.m. on Sunday, following which the local organisers quickly stepped into action.

Ghavri was accompanying the west zone team for the newly launched inter-zonal competition. The former left-arm pace bowler who also bowled occasional spin took charge of the west zone cricket academy’s bowling wing in April. Immediately after accepting the BCCI’s offer, Ghavri had stepped down as a Mumbai senior selector to avoid conflict of interest.
