BCCI to test DRS in IPL 2018
The board roped in ICC umpires’ coach Denis Burns and Paul Reiffel to brief the local umpires who would officiate in the tournament.

After years of stringent stance towards the Decision Review System (DRS), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) accepted the technology during England’s tour of India in 2016. And now, the board is keen to try it out in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to a report in an English daily, the BCCI has been mulling over the DRS issue for months.
The report said that the BCCI had shortlisted 10 local umpires, last December, who would officiate in the IPL. They were made to take DRS sessions in Vizag under a program led by ICC umpires’ coach Denis Burns and Paul Reiffel, former Australia pacer-turned umpire.

Clearly, the board wanted the umpires to get used to DRS.
The IPL — which will also see the return of champion outfits Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals this season after a two-year-ban — will become the second league after Pakistan Super League to use DRS.
Last December, Chris Lynn’s dismissal in a Big Bash League reopened the DRS debate in the Australian circles, but Cricket Australia isn’t too keen to introduce the technology in their premier T20 competition at this stage.
