Aniket Choudhary celebrates the dismissal of Mumbai Indians’ Parthiv Patel in Mumbai on Monday.

Aniket Choudhary’s wisecrack evoked a spontaneous laugh from the media; when asked what he gained from training with the Indian team in the home international season, the 27-year-old left arm seamer from Rajasthan said: “Rs. 2 crore.”

He was referring to the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) successful bid for him at the IPL auction in Bangalore.

After dismissing Parthiv Patel in the first ball of the Mumbai Indians innings, Choudhary had managed to contain the MI sixth wicket pair Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the 18th over, before Pandya pulled the last ball—short one—over the square leg fence.

“Perhaps we could have done better with slower balls. Even I bowled the last ball of the 18th a little quicker. I took advice from A. B. de Villers; he said probably the batsman (Pandya) would be anticipating a slower ball and hence I should try a faster ball. But these things happen in Twenty-20,’’ said Choudhary.

MI’s Karn Sharma said: “We have four more league matches and cannot take any for granted. We would like to sustain the momentum and take it into the play offs.’’

Harbhajan Singh did not figure in the MI XI and Sharma revealed the off-spinner is down with a left foot niggle.
