Ravindra Jadeja explains Hetmyer run out

In the 12th over of the West Indies innings, Shimron Hetmyer called for a run but never took off, while Sunil Ambris reached his end.

Hetmyer tried to sneak a single after whipping an Ashwin delivery straight to Jadeja; Sunil Ambris left his crease and reached Hetmyer, but the latter never took off.

 

Shortly after reaching his first Test hundred, Ravindra Jadeja found himself in a comical situation at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Friday.

Jadeja almost missed a run-out. But then, he saved himself from the embarrassment by executing the dismissal at the last moment.

In the 12th over of the Windies innings, Hetmyer tried to sneak a single after whipping it straight to Jadeja. Sunil Ambris left his crease and reached Hetmyer. But the latter never took off.

When both the batsmen were at the same end, Jadeja — instead of going for a throw — decided to walk down to the wicket to dislodge the bails. On seeing his tactics, Hetmyer tried to cross over to the other end but was eventually dismissed as Jadeja hit the stumps from close distance.

Skipper Virat Kohli and bowler Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t seem impressed with Jadeja’s gimmick, but later, they were seen laughing it out.

In the post-match presser, Jadeja admitted that he knew Hetmyer would not take the ‘trouble’ of running given the extreme weather conditions.

“When I saw that both the batsmen were in one end, I did not realise that he (Hetmyer) would take the initiative to run. It was very hot out there. So, I was relaxed and thought of taking the bails off comfortably,” Jadeja explained.
