Everton captain Seamus Coleman suffered a broken leg like teammate Gomes

The then Republic of Ireland skipper Coleman suffered the injury during his side's goalless draw with Wales at the Aviva Stadium in March 2017.

The Republic of Ireland defender was given oxygen before being carried off following the challenge with Neil Taylor.

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes suffered a major leg injury in the Premier League clash with Tottenham, leaving his tackler Son Heung-min inconsolable.

Spurs forward Son was sent off after catching Gomes with a sliding challenge as the midfielder led a break over the halfway line. Gomes then seemed to collide with Serge Aurier while off-balance and went to ground with what looked to be a significant injury to his right leg.

However, this isn't the first time an Everton player has suffered a broken leg during the match. Everton captain Seamus Coleman, too, suffered a similar injury in March 2017.

Taylor received a straight red card for the reckless challenge that led to Coleman leaving the field on a stretcher and being taken to hospital.

On Monday, Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino expressed his gratitude in the way the Everton players handled the incident and especially the behaviour of the captain Coleman.

“The players from Everton were fantastic,” said Pochettino. “The captain came to the dressing room to console Son.

“I want to say thank you to the players and Coleman, who came in on behalf of the squad of Everton.”
