Steven Zuber: The Swiss behind Brazil's agony

The Switzerland left winger cancelled out Brazil Philippe Coutinho's stupendous goal and helped his team to a 1-1 draw.

Steven Zuber was on target in the 50th minute as Switzerland equalised in dramatic fashion.

Switzerland's Steven Zuber denied a fairy tale start for Brazil as he cancelled out Philippe Coutinho’s stunning first-half opener with a thundering header.

The Hoffenheim star struck five minutes after the break although the Selcao seemed to appeal in vain for a foul on defender Miranda by Zuber.

After starting his career with Grasshoppers in Switzerland, Zuber moved to CSKA Moscow in Russia in 2013, winning the Russian Super Cup and the Russian Premier League the same year.

His performances in the Russian League were enough to get him a transfer to Hoffenheim, the club paying 3.5 million pounds for his transfer in 2014. After moving to Germany, he developed under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann.

The 2017-18 season was his best in the Bundesliga as he helped Hoffenheim finish third and qualify for the Champions League.

From Juventus to West Ham, he has attracted the attention of various clubs across Europe. Should the winger continue his stellar run in the World Cup, more clubs could be vying for his signature very soon.
