Frappart has been picked by the French Football Federation to prepare her for “World Cup conditions”.

Stephanie Frappart is set to become the first female referee to officiate a top-flight Ligue 1 match when she takes the field for Amiens’ home match against Strasbourg on Sunday.

Frappart has been picked by the French Football Federation to prepare her for “World Cup conditions”. The 35-year-old will officiate at her second Women’s World Cup in France this summer.

“Fifa has invited the federations with a chosen referee for the World Women’s Cup, to prepare them under the best conditions for this high-level competition,” an FFF statement said.

However, this is not the first time when a woman will be officiating in the French top flight. Nelly Viennot was an assistant referee for over a decade.

Viennot was one of the 82 elite officials shortlisted for 60 assistant referee positions during the 2006 World Cup in Germany but was ruled out after failing a sprint test.
