Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri celebrates after his team's I-League title triumph at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

Striker Sunil Chhetri has signed a one-year deal with Bengaluru FC (BFC), the club announced on Thursday.

The India international had spent the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons with BFC, before signing with Indian Super League team Mumbai City FC. Chhetri had returned to BFC on loan for the 2015-16 season, in which the club went on to win the I-League title.

"I've always said that BFC is family to me. We're doing some amazing things, and I'm delighted to pen this deal. We've had a brilliant season and I'm really looking forward to building on it. The fans, management, staff and dressing room have all made me feel at home from the day I stepped in. There's a connect with this city that is special," Chhetri said.

"I don’t think we need to be vocal about what he brings to the club, and the kind of impact that he has in the dressing room and outside of it. Sunil has been a top professional, who leads the team by example," club COO Mustafa Ghouse stated.

The 31-year-old has scored a total of 35 goals, across competitions for BFC. His brace against Kitchee FC in the AFC Cup Round-of-16 game in Hong Kong last month sent the side into the quarterfinal, which will be held in September.
