East Bengal introduces Subhash Bhowmick to share coaching duties with Jamil

Bhowmick, who guided East Bengal to its last top-division title in the 2004 National Football League, has been drafted in the advisory role to “share” duties with Jamil.

Having failed to secure the I-League crown, East Bengal on Tuesday presented its former player and coach Subhash Bhowmick as the technical advisor alongside head coach Khalid Jamil ahead of the team’s Super Cup campaign.

Bhowmick, who guided East Bengal to its last top-division title in the 2004 National Football League, has been drafted in the advisory role to “share” duties with Jamil. The club has kept his specific duties in ambiguity but it is learnt that Bhowmick will have a lot of say in strategising the team’s future plans.

Bhowmick comes in after another former international Manoranjan Bhattacharya quit as the technical advisor following the team’s failed I-League campaign. “I have been watching East Bengal’s I-League campaign on television. I will be thinking more intently about the team now that I have been given a specific task. Khalid will remain the head coach and I will be taking the next step in consultation with him,” said Bhowmick, whose last coaching stint with East Bengal was in 2008-2009 season. “It will be a pleasure to be working with a noted coach like Subhash Bhowmick. We all have the good of East Bengal in mind and I am sure it will be a nice experience to be working with him,” Jamil said.
