South United Football Club (SUFC) player Shanthosh Kumar, affected by Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), remains in critical condition, the club announced here on Thursday.

SUFC CEO Pranav Trehan explained that Shanthosh, 23, is receiving treatment in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at St. John’s Hospital here. “Shanthosh is in critical condition. A ventilator machine is helping him breathe. He is conscious, but he doesn’t have the strength to move or speak. However, there are signs of gradual improvement. The club initially marked ₹5 lakh to cover his medical expenses, but since this may not be sufficient, we have raised it to ₹9 lakh,” Pranav said.

A few days ago, Shanthosh fell severely ill in the morning hours and was unable to get out of bed. Friends and family rushed him to the hospital. “SUFC will continue to pay Shanthosh's player salary during the time of his medical treatment,” Trehan added.
