Indian women ready for Afghanistan challenge

Incidentally, Afghanistan is not a part of the SAFF zone anymore as it joined the Central Asian Zone earlier this year. It was invited to compete and eventually, it was clubbed with host India and Bangladesh in group B.

Indian women's football team will open its SAFF campaign against Afghanistan on Tuesday.

A “well-prepared” India will take on Afghanistan in the SAFF Women’s Football Championship here tomorrow, seeking to continue its dominance in the tournament.

“We are well prepared and girls are raring to give it a go tomorrow,” coach Sajid Dar said.

“We need all three points tomorrow to kick-start our campaign in the best possible way. Yes, it’s true that we have enormous respect for them but that won’t deter us to shy away from trying to clinch a win tomorrow,” an optimistic Sajid said today.

A good number of Afghani girls ply their trade in the Europe, especially Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and the USA and tomorrow’s match will surely be a fierce one. “I have heard about it and definitely, this Afghanistan outfit will be a hard nut to crack. We have our own strategies and we’ll try to execute them on the field.”

Meanwhile, Sajid informed that the squad is completely fit. “The girls are in proper shape and all of them deserve to start tomorrow. Now, they need to grab the opportunity with both hands and prove their worth on the field,” Sajid stated.
