The Indian team, coached by the iconic I. M. Vijayan, went down 5-1 to Russia in its opening match at the Socca World Cup in Crete, Greece, on Sunday.

Former India striker Raman Vijayan found the back of the net, but the Russians prevailed in the 40-minute six-a-side contest. India has been grouped alongside Russia, Moldova, Peru and Spain in Group F.

The 14-member Indian team consists of former India internationals including Vijayan, Climax Lawrence, Micky Fernandes, Samir Subash Naik and Suresh Muttath.
