Tributes paid after caddie Zechmann dies at Dubai Ladies Masters

Zechmann was carrying the bag for French golfer Anne-Lise Caudal when he fell ill on the 13th fairway at Emirates Golf Club on Wednesday.

Caddie Max Zechmann was treated by medical staff on the course, but was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

Tributes have been paid to caddie Max Zechmann, who died after collapsing on the course during the first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters.

Zechmann was carrying the bag for French golfer Anne-Lise Caudal when he fell ill on the 13th fairway at Emirates Golf Club on Wednesday.

He was treated by medical staff on the course, but was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

Europe's new Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn tweeted: "Dreadful news out of Dubai this morning. Thoughts are with loved ones and everyone involved."

Ian Poulter also sent his condolences on social media, tweeting: "Very sad to see the passing of another caddie. Done many rounds with Big Max. #RIP thoughts go out to his family and friends."

Carly Booth, who went out in the same round as Caudal, tweeted: "Tough start today for our group to experience something so horrendous. Thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Max."

Play was suspended for the day after Zechmann collapsed and a minute's silence will be observed on Thursday at a tournament that will now be played over 54 holes.
