Yogeshwar had been knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals by Besik Kudukhov of Russia, whose entry into the final gave the Indian an opportunity in the repechage rounds. He won the toss twice to beat Puerto Rico’s Franklin Gomez in the first repechage round.

Yogeshwar went on to beat Iran’s Masoud Esmaeilpour and North Korea’s Ri Jong-Myong to win the bronze in the men’s 60 kg freestyle. The winner of multiple medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games is hoping to turn his Olympic bronze medal into gold in Rio.

The man from Bhainswal Kalan in Haryana would compete in the 65 kg category in what is going to be his fourth Olympics.
