Russian judo team given Rio green light

The International Judo Federation (IJF) last month gave the green light for Russian judokas to take part in Brazil after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it would be up to individual sports federations to decide their fate.

Judo events will take place at the Olympic Park in Rio.

All 11 members of the Russian judo team have been cleared to compete in the Rio Olympic Games.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) last month gave the green light for Russian judokas to take part in Brazil after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it would be up to individual sports federations to decide their fate.

That was not the end of the matter, though, as the IOC revealed last weekend that it had set up a three-person panel to have the final say on Russian participation, which was in doubt following revelations of state-sponsored doping made in the McLaren report.

However, the IJF confirmed on the eve of the Games that all seven male and four female judokas have been given the green light to perform in Rio.

A IJF statement released on Thursday said: "The International Judo Federation is very pleased that all Russian judoka who qualified for the Olympic Games, tested many times before the Games with clean results, will attend the judo event in Rio."
