Bhaker, Mitharval finish 4th after shooting qualification world record

This was the fourth time India settled for a No. 4 finish in the second stage of the marquee event.

The pair had earlier scored a qualification world record, shooting a combined 778 to overtake Germany's Christian and Sandra Reitz.

Manu Bhaker and Om Prakash Mitharval combined strongly to strike a world record 778 in qualification but missed a medal in the mixed air pistol team competition in the shooting World Cup in Changwon, Korea, on Thursday. In a strong field of 45 teams, Manu and Om Prakash shot 392 and 386 respectively to top the table in qualification, but let China, Germany and Serbia to overtake them for the medals. The other Indian team of Heena Sidhu and Shahzar Rizvi was placed 19th with a total of 762. In men’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Sanjeev Rajput qualified with a total of 1178, but ended up eighth. Akhil Sheoran (1172) and Swapnil Kusale (1171) also shot good scores but had to be content with 17th and 24th spots. Meanwhile, all the three Indian shooters, Anjum Moudgil, Tejaswini Sawant and Gaayathri Nithyanandam passed the elimination round to qualify for the women’s 50-metre rifle 3-position competition.
