Manu Bhaker shot 583 and missed a berth in the final, after she finished tied with two others with the same score, in women’s 25-metre sports pistol in the World Cup Final in Putian, China, on Wednesday.
Three shooters were tied for the last spot in the final, and Doreen Vennekamp of Germany progressed with 23 inner 10s, as compared to 17 by Manu and Australian Elena Galiabovitch. Manu, however, will have further chances in the air pistol, individual and mixed team competition.
At the end of a hard season, the Indian shooters found it difficult to be at their competitive prime, and Asian Games gold medallist Rahi Sarnobat slipped to the last spot in the event with 569.
In the men’s 25-metre rapid fire pistol, Anish Bhanwala shot 578 and missed the final by two points. He had come agonisingly close to sealing an Olympic quota at the recently concluded Asian Championship in Doha, Qatar.
