Kynan, Prithviraj disappoint at Shotgun World Cup

Kynan Chenai and Prithviraj Tondaiman shot 123 and 121 respectively but failed to make it to the final round of the men’s trap event at the Shotgun World Cup.

Kynan Chenai bowed out in the shoot-off after finishing 10th in qualification.

Olympian Kynan Chenai fired on all cylinders, but could not make the final, despite shooting 123 out of 125 in men’s trap at the Shotgun World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.

National champion Kynan had a remarkable series of 24, 25, 25, 25 and 24. He did go through six-way shoot-off for the last berth in the final, and got eliminated second, to be eventually placed 10th in a field of 107.

Prithviraj Tondaiman, the national championship silver medallist, also shot three rounds of perfect 25, but rounds of 23 in the third and fifth, pulled him down to the 35th spot.

Former World Champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu who had started with a perfect 25, slipped thereafter to 21, 24, 23 and 24. He was placed 66th with a total of 117.

The reigning World champion James Willett of Australia was flawless as he followed up a perfect 125 in qualification, that equalled the World Record, to beat Ahmed Zaher of Egypt for the gold 47-43.

With James having already won the Olympic quota in Korea last year in the world championship, the two Olympic quota places went to the other two medallists, Ahmed Zaher of Egypt and Yu Haicheng of China.
