Ganemat Sekhon shot 96 and placed 39th in women’s skeet in the shotgun World Cup in Malta on Friday. The 17-year-old Ganemat had rounds of 18, 21, 19, 20 and 18.

It was a struggle for the other Indian in the main event as 16-year-old Parinaaz Dhaliwal gathered 73 out of 125 for the 57th spot among 59 shooters.

The difficult conditions could be gleaned from the fact that three-time Olympic champion and World Champion, Kimberly Rhode of the US, who has 29 World Cup medals including 17 gold, shot only 108 and missed the final by a point.

There was only one round of perfect 25 out of 295 individual rounds. In the MQS section, Areeba Khan shot scores of 14 to 17 to make 79.

The National Rifle Association of India had opted to give the young shooters a chance to compete in the World Cup while preserving the regulars for the tougher competitions ahead.
