Australia, NZ anticipating spin in Dharamsala tie

Ross Taylor of New Zealand and Steve Smith of Australia hinted at loading their respective teams with spinners for the World Twenty20 group game between the sides in Dharamsala.

Ross Taylor: 'I think spin will play a big role [on Friday]'

New Zealand and Australia would look to wait until the last moment before deciding on the playing combination for the ICC World Twenty20 match on Friday.

Ross Taylor, speaking for the New Zealand camp, said, “Obviously we have to wait and see what the conditions are like. The boundaries are lot smaller here. In Nagpur the boundaries were so big, so you couldn't attack the spinners as much as you would have liked. Rotating the strike played a big part there but here mishits can still go for six. We just have to wait and see.”

Australian skipper Steve Smith hinted at tweaking the combination. “Few different things could change with a shortened game. So we'll have to wait and see tomorrow. The weather is something we can't control. So yeah, we'll wait and see until tomorrow. (Three spinners) could be possible. I think they (New Zealand) will potentially go in with the same side, when they see this pitch. So it is possible that we bring out a few spinners as well to try and make use of the conditions.”

On Australia having the edge, Taylor noted, “Anytime you play Australia they are a big brother I guess. They always had a lot of success against us in few games. I think we need to better the trans-transman rivalry and we get the best out of the players. I think spin will have a big role to play tomorrow and different power options.”
