Guillermo Garcia-Lopez's culinary skills has been improving on par with his tennis.

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez has been on the ATP tour for over a decade now and still boasts an impressive world ranking of 27. The 32-year-old Spaniard has also garnered a reputation of being a terrific cook, having dished out a delicious barbeque to his fellow players at the Australian Open last year.

“I learnt how to cook at the age of 15 as I had started living by myself. I started with easier things like salads and pizzas,” said Garcia-Lopez.

At a promotional event at the 2016 Aircel Chennai Open, Garcia-Lopez donned the chef’s role and conjured up a ‘dosa’ much to the delight of those gathered. The Spaniard was so nervous that he ended up making a hash of his first ‘dosa’ attempt but egged on by the excited on-lookers, he successfully prepared the dish at the second time of asking.

“Like most Spanish people, my favourite dish is the paella which is also considered to be our national dish. It is a white rice preparation with meat, beans and some seasoning,” ATP’s master-chef went on to explain.

Garcia-Lopez has managed back-to-back comeback wins against Taro Daniel and Ante Pavic but finds himself facing a mountainous task in the quarter-final as he takes on top seed and world number four Stan Wawrinka.
