Sushil Kumar to skip Asian championship

Sushi has opted to skip the continental event in order to avoid the possibility of aggravating the knee injury ahead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

Two-time Olympic medallist and former World champion Sushil Kumar has decided not to participate in the Asian wrestling championships to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from February 27. According to a Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) official, the ace wrestler intimated the national federation about his unavailability owing to a knee injury. It is learnt that Sushil, who was nursing the knee injury during the Commonwealth Games selection trials in December last, has opted to skip the continental event in order to avoid the possibility of aggravating the injury ahead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April. Sushil, who last competed in the Commonwealth championships in December, has been replaced with former Asian bronze medallist and fierce rival Parveen Rana in the 74kg freestyle category.
