AP CM announces award of Rs. 1 crore for archer Surekha

Surekha received her Arjuna award two days ago.

A cash award of Rs. 1 crore will be received by local archery Vennam Jyoti Surekha, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced. Surekha is a recent recipient of the Arjuna award.

Additionally, Surekha will also be given a 500-sq. yard house site in Vijayawada and a government job.

Surekha met the Chief Minister here this afternoon.

Proud State

Naidu lauded her achievements in the field of archery and promised full support for her to excel further. “Surekha did Andhra Pradesh proud by winning 70 medals at national and international archery competitions. She is also the youngest to receive Arjuna award from south India,” the chief minister said.

Surekha, who is currently pursuing her MBA, said she aims to bag an Olympic medal for her country.

Naidu asked the special chief secretary (Youth Affairs and Sports) to identify top ten sportspersons in the state and extend all necessary support for them to excel in their fields.

Naidu also announced an award of Rs. 10 lakh for 10-year-old Devisri Prasad of Tirupati for setting the Guinness World Record in skating. Prasad skated under 60 cars, covering a distance of 115 meters (forward and backward). Naidu congratulated the kid on the achievement.
