India win three golds in Asian Archery Championships

India’s third gold medal came in the men’s team compound, where Abhishek Verma, Sarvesh Pareek and Rajat defeated the South Korean team comprising Kim Jongho, Yang Youngho and Choi Yong Hee.

India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam (women’s compound) and Rajat Chauhan (men’s compound) won gold medals at the 19th Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok on Saturday. India’s third gold medal came in the men’s team compound, where Abhishek Verma, Sarvesh Pareek and Rajat defeated the South Korean team comprising Kim Jongho, Yang Youngho and Choi Yong Hee.

Facing Afsaneh Shafielavijeh of Iran in the women’s compound final, Jyothi scored 141 points. Afsaneh could manage only 137.

In the women’s recurve final, India lost to South Korea. Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi Laishram and Laxmirani Majhi failed to match up to their rivals Chang Hye Jin, Hong Sunam and Lee Tuk Young. South Korea won the final game 5-3 to take the five-game final 3-2.

Indian women (Jyothi, Jayalakshmi Sarikonda and Swati Dudhwal – 232) also lost to South Korea (Song Yun Soo, Kim Yun Hee and Seol Dayeong – 234) in the compound team final.

Earlier in the day, South Korea’s Lee Woo Seok defeated compatriot Lee Seungyun to grab the gold in men’s recurve. The match was decided by a shoot-off, where Woo Seok hit a perfect 10 to emerge winner.

In the women’s recurve final, South Korea’s Chang Hye Jin beat compatriot Hong Sunam to win the gold. Chang won all the four rounds for a 7-1 score.

In the men’s recurve team event, South Korea (Lee Woo Seok, Lee Seungyun and Im Dong Hyun) beat Japan (Kikuchi Hideki, Kawata Yuki and Tabata Shungo) 6-2 to win the gold.

In the mixed recurve final, Chinese Taipei (Le Chien-Ying and Wei Chun-Heng) defeated South Korea (Chang Hye Jin and Lee Woo Seok) to win the gold.

South Korea (157) bagged gold medal when Song Yun Soo and Kim Jongho beat Afsaneh and Esmaeil Ebadi of Iran (154) in the compound mixed event.
