India’s Rohan Bopanna is the only Top 10 player set to compete in tennis at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, as per the entry lists released on the official website.
The 43-year-old Bopanna is World No. 7 in men’s doubles. He became the oldest men’s Grand Slam finalist in the Open Era by reaching the US Open summit clash with Australia’s Matthew Ebden this year.
Bopanna is also the reigning Asian Games men’s doubles gold medallist. He and Divij Sharan had defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik and Denis Yevseyev in the final of the 2018 edition in Indonesia.
World No. 65 Yuki Bhambri, who partnered Bopanna in the veteran’s final Davis Cup match on Sunday, along with World No. 82 Saketh Myneni and World No. 186 Ramkumar Ramanathan are the other Indians in the men’s doubles field.
World No. 159 Sumit Nagal, India’s sole representative in men’s singles, is the fifth-highest ranked player in the field after home favourites Zhizhen Zhang (World No. 60) and Wu Yibing (World No. 98), and Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki (World No. 78) and South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon (World No. 112).
In women’s singles, World No. 184 Ankita Raina and World No. 228 Karman Kaur Thandi are the third and seventh-highest ranked players, respectively.
