Dutee Chand-led Indian team ready for Asian Grand Prix

A 12-member Indian team will compete in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix athletics in Jiaxing and Jinhua of China, on April 24 and 27 respectively.

Dutee Chand will represent India in women’s 100m.

A 12-member Indian team will compete in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix athletics in Jiaxing and Jinhua of China, on April 24 and 27 respectively.

Asian Games 400m bronze medallist M.R. Poovamma and the National record holder in 400m Mohammed Anas will join the rest of the squad for the third leg of the competition scheduled to be held in Chinese Taipei on April 30. Both the athletes did not get the Chinese visa.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI), in a release issued here on Thursday, clarified that 17-year-old high jumper Tejaswin Shankar sustained a back injury and dropped out of the squad.

The team: Men: Vidyasagar Siddarajanayaka (100m), Jinson Johnson (400m), Rakesh Babu (triple jump), Om Prakash Singh (shot put), Neeraj Chopra and Ravinder Singh (javelin).

Women: Dutee Chand and Reena George (100m), Tintu Luka (800m), Neena Varakil (long jump), Jinu Maria (high jump), Manpreet Kaur (shot put).

Coaches: Garry James Calvert, Bibu Mathew, PT Usha, Radha Krishnan Nair.
