Tejaswin breaks national record

Delhi high jumper Tejaswin Shankar broke his own national record, raising it by one centimetre, to 2.29m at the Texas Tech Corky-Crofoot Shootout athletics meet in the U.S. on Friday night.

Tejaswin had finished sixth in the recent Commonwealth Games.

He had set the previous mark at the Federation Cup in Patiala last month. The record came in his first attempt at the height and he won the gold comfortably. “High jump is the funniest sport! Two weeks ago, I jumped 2.24m at Gold Coast and today, it’s another new national record! Everything has a time... ‘ifs and buts’ should not be part of the game. Just onwards and upwards from now,” tweeted the 19-year-old after bettering the record.

The youngster had finished sixth in the recent Commonwealth Games.
