After a string of losses in title-winning matches, P.V. Sindhu reversed the tide at the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals last year by becoming the first Indian to win the title. Now, with the All England Championships looming, legend Morten Frost believes the result may well push the World No 6 towards further greatness.
“I believe winning the Finals will give her that extra bit she needs in some of the other finals,” he said.
“She is a marvelous competitor. She has not had luck on her side on many occasions. She has come extremely close. She has lost them [final matches] but you have to respect that she has been able to win as many medals as she has. I don't think you should question her.”
Impressive longevity
Frost was equally impressed with fellow Indian and World No 9 Saina Nehwal’s longevity stretching to more than a decade. Since the bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships, Saina has been resurgent, adding the Commonwealth Games gold and two Senior National titles. In all three, she beat Sindhu.
“She is a really strong competitor and has a very strong mind. After the 2016 Olympics, when she got injured, it was a great achievement to be able to comeback to the top when many wrote her off."
"Also, there are some players she loves to play and some others who she doesn't. It is like a puzzle falling into place. If it goes right she can be a very strong contender but if goes wrong she will be struggling from quarters, maybe even pre-quarters."
